Crazy Face JudgeJudicial races have to be the most frustrating races for voters who support traditional values. Certainly, judges have wreaked havoc in our nation, removing the Bible, the Ten Commandments, and prayer from public schools, allowing preborn children to be ripped limb from limb in their mother’s womb, in creating a constitutional right to homosexual marriage, and more. Yet when they run for office in Florida, the Florida bar prohibits them from taking positions on any issue they may rule upon in the future. This means that determining where they stand on issues such as abortion and homosexual marriage is difficult to impossible!

The Florida Family Policy Council has produced a judicial voter guide for over 11 years, and it does offer some help: see below; however, finding where the candidates really stand on important issues such as life, marriage, liberty, and the constitution, and the rule of law is next to impossible.

Judicial Recommendations Explanation

Over the years, several voters have asked me for help in determining which judicial candidate to vote for, so I started speaking with Christian, prolife attorneys who work in the legal field to provide recommendations on which candidate is the most likely to defend life and uphold the rule of law. Even with the advice of attorneys who appear before judges in court, it is still difficult to know where the judges stand on some issues, so even this process is not perfect. What’s more, sometimes one attorney may have a difference of opinion from another attorney. In such a case, I will mention both candidates. I will also first mention the choices for judges for those who just want the recommendations and then more detail below for those who desire to know the rationale behind the decision.

Detailed Judicial Recommendations

Saint Lucie County Judge Group 3

The candidates in this race are: Ed Alonzo and Nirlaine T. Smartt. Judge Smartt is the incumbent, and Mr Alonzo is the challenger. Both Alonzo and Smartt are Roman Catholic, and it is likely that both would be just judges and would defend life. Smartt has a track record as a judge though, and every attorney I have spoken with strongly recommends her for re-election.

19th Judicial Circuit – Group 1

The attorneys I spoke with unanimously recommend James W. “Jim” McCann.

19th Judicial Circuit – Group 6

In this race, the attorney’s didn’t agree. One attorney recommended Michael J. McNicholas because of his extensive legal background, but he did also speak highly of Leonard Silvio Villafranco. Another attorney recommended Villafranco because he is a solid conservative. As such, Villafranco will get my vote August 30 in the primary election.
