Where Would you be without your mother? Without your mother bearing you in her womb, you wouldn’t be here today, and without care after birth, you also wouldn’t be here.
Certainly, we owe our lives to our mothers. Aren’t you glad your mother chose life? I know I am.

Yet today, motherhood is under attack! Young women are often taught that children are a burden that will wreck their education or career. Young mothers are often encourage, pressured, or even forced to kill their children by abortion, and over the last 40 years, millions of mothers have caved to the pressure and allowed their preborn children to be ripped limb from limb from their womb. Rather than listen to their maternal instincts, they have buried those instincts and allowed the destruction of over 55,000,000 children. These mothers who have chosen death for their children suffer, often in silence, for years, decades, or even the rest of their lives.

Please join Personhood FL praying that the mothers who have chosen abortion will find the forgiveness and healing that only comes through Jesus Christ and that God will revive those maternal instincts, and help Personhood FL restore the sanctity of human life. We need your help to provide legal protection to all innocent human life and to protect women from the horrid consequences of abortion. Join us today in working to pass the Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment by volunteering and in making a generous donation to help Personhood FL continue to restore the culture of life in Florida. We will put every donation, no matter how big or small, to use to work toward the day when abortion is illegal and all humans at are protected.

Did you realize that 25 babies were aborted at the abortion mill in Ft. Pierce a few weeks ago? That number is equivalent to a classroom of children. 681 children were murdered last year. That is equivalent to an entire elementary school. This is the ONLY remaining abortion mill on the Treasure Coast.
Upholding that our rights come from God, and in observance of our National Day of Prayer, let us join as one body to seek God’s face in repentance, and intercede to change the hearts and minds of men and women in our county.
Happy Thanksgiving from Personhood FL. Aren’t you thankful your mother chose life? I know I am. I’m also thankful that abortion was illegal in my state when I was born. Wouldn’t it be nice if abortion were illegal today? Well, it can be, and you can help it happen!

I’m thankful that you have joined with Personhood FL to help end abortion and protect all innocent human life in FL. Over the past year, we have connected with prolifers in every region of Florida who have joined in this fight to restore the sanctity of human life. With your help, we will build on this momentum in the coming year to make every region, every county, every city, every church, every neighborhood prolife.

I’m thankful for all of the prolifers who have volunteered in prolife pregnancy centers, prayed at abortion clinics, counseled women considering abortion, helped a woman in a crisis pregnancy, adopted children, stood for life, and exposed abortionists responsible for shedding innocent blood. I’m thankful for the babies who have been saved through these efforts and the mothers and fathers, grandparents, and friends who have been spared the horrors of abortion as well. In the upcoming year, I look forward to joining you on the front lines as we fight to save innocent human life.

I’m thankful for the prolife political victories we’ve had over the past year. First the proposed Amendment 6 was defeated in the November election. While this amendment claimed to prohibit tax funding of abortion, it actually didn’t prohibit any funding of abortion that isn’t already prohibited by state law, and it would have permitted tax funding of abortion in cases of rape and incest. It also would have added language to the Florida Constitution that would have inferred that the FL and US Constitutions contain a “right to abortion.” This is why Personhood FL and Personhood FL ProLife PAC opposed Amendment 6. (View our analysis of Amendment 6 here.)

I’m also thankful that in FL over 80 candidates for public office signed a Personhood Affirmation committing to a 100% comprehensive prolife position. I thank these candidates for having the courage to defend all innocent human life, and I thank you for voting for them. I thank God that for the first time in Florida, candidates who are 100% prolife were elected to federal, state, district, and local offices. In the upcoming year, Personhood FL and Personhood FL ProLife PAC look forward to joining with you to educate prolife legislators on the importance of protecting all innocent human life.

I’m thankful today that God has granted us to live in a country and a state where we the people have the ability to petition our government for a redress of grievances and amend our constitution peacefully, without succession. As we thank God today, let us resolve to pray and work to pass the Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment to restore the sanctity of human life, end abortion, and protect all innocent human life, and signup for Personhood FL’s next volunteer conference call Thursday, December 11 from 7 – 8 PM EST.

Have you looked at the proposed 2012 FL constitutional amendments and wondered what they mean and how you should vote on them? I’ve prepared this guide to help you sort out these amendments.

When we look at the proposed amendments, we need guidelines to determine not only if the idea is a good idea but also whether it is a constitutional issue. Constitutional Educator Brenda MacMenamin has done an excellent job in developing a framework to determine whether an issue is a constitutional issue or not. I drew upon her work in my first point and quote from her on the next two points.

When we consider an amendment, we must first realize that the FL constitution is the supreme law of FL second only to the US Constitution. As such, we should not amend it for “light and transient causes” as stated in the Declaration of Independence.

“Every amendment should include the general population and never a specific people group.”

“Any amendment should not relieve Congress [or the FL Legislature] from fulfilling its purpose and responsibility to ‘hold the purse strings’ of government as it is the only branch that is (or should be) directly responsible to the people (that was before the 17th Amendment.)”

It is with these guidelines that I examined the 2012 proposed FL constitutional amendments.

*While these amendments have merit, and some are good ideas, they are not proper constitutional issues.

Amendment 1: HEALTH CARE SERVICES.

The proposed Amendment 1 to the FL constitution is designed to prohibit the government from requiring individuals from purchasing healthcare insurance and allowing individuals to directly pay for healthcare. This amendment may give Florida’s governor and legislature both the courage and legal foundation to exert Florida’s 10th amendment rights to protect Floridians from provisions of the Affordable Healthcare Act of 2010 and would prohibit the passage of a similar act on a statewide level.

Since the Affordable Healthcare Act does include coverage for abortions and since socialized healthcare has always led to rationing of care for seniors and the disabled, I support Amendment 1 and ask you to vote yes on 1.

Amendment 2: VETERANS DISABLED DUE TO COMBAT INJURY; HOMESTEAD PROPERTY TAX DISCOUNT

The military is one of the few legitimate functions of government having support and authority in both the US Constitution and the Bible. I do full support giving a property tax discount to combat injured veterans; however, since this amendment applies to a specific group of people and not the general population, this discount should not be applied through a constitutional amendment but through the legislature.

To make matters more complicated, Floridians did pass a similar constitutional amendment in 2006, but the 2006 amendment required that the disabled veteran lived in Florida when they become disabled. Amendment 2 would extend those benefits to veterans who lived in other states when they became disabled. As Constitutional Educator and Attorney Krisanne Hall explains, “If the original provisions had been passed through the appropriate channels of legislation, a simple amendment to the statute could have been easily passed while the legislature was in session. Now Floridians will incur not only the cost of employing our legislators to do their job, but the cost of amending the constitution when the legislators don’t want to, or are unable to do their job.”

I oppose Amendment 2 but call on the FL Legislature to pass legislation granting this exemption to all military veterans injured in the combat, regardless of which state they lived in when injured.

Amendment 3 – STATE GOVERNMENT REVENUE LIMITATION

Florida’s revenue is already limited by FL’s constitution by a formula using the income of Floridians. Amendment 3 would change the formula with one based on population changes and inflation. Since Florida’s population will likely always increase and since we will always have inflation as long as the Fed prints more money, the new proposed amendment would likely be less restrictive than the current formula. In the last four years, the average income of families in the United States has declined by over $4,000 per year; however, our population has grown, and we have experienced inflation. Perhaps this is why the FL Legislature proposed this amendment. Do you really believe they want to further limit their revenue? Really? If so, I have a bridge I’d like to sell you.

I oppose Amendment 3 and ask you to vote no on 3.

Amendment 4: PROPERTY TAX LIMITATIONS; PROPERTY VALUE DECLINE; REDUCTION FOR NON-HOMESTEAD ASSESSMENT INCREASES; DELAY OF SCHEDULED REPEAL

I oppose property tax since it violates a principle of God’s word, the requirement that the government protect property rights and insure that children are able to inherit property from their parents. With property taxes, you never really own your property because if you don’t pay your property tax, the government can take your property.

In Florida, the Save Our Home Amendment was passed to ensure that property values of homesteaded property can rise no more than 3% per year. While this provided some protection for existing home owners, it also created substantial differences in property values between property held over several years and newly aquired property, especially as property values rose substantially in the real estate boom. This led to some families paying thousands more in property taxes than their next door neighbors. Most of those differences have been wiped out by the real estate crash, but when real estate values do begin to rise again, we will see more of the inequity created by the Save Our Homes.

Amendment 4 will prohibit the taxable value of homesteaded property from rising in years where property tax doesn’t rise. If passed, this provision will created even greater inequities between long held homesteaded properties and newly aquired homesteaded and non-homesteaded/commercial property.

While Save Our Homes created inequity in private residences, the differences in the rise in property values between non-homesteaded and commercial property were even greater. To address this problem, Floridians passed an amendment in 2008 limiting growth in commercial property to 10% per year. Amendment 4 would change that percentage to 5%. While this will reduce the difference between the rise in property value between homesteaded and non-homesteaded/commercial property, inequities will still exist in rising markets between newly aquired property and long held property.

Another element of Amendment 4 will give 50% property tax breaks to first time home buyers with a first time home buyer being anyone who hasn’t owned a house in the last three years. This additional break would be reduced by 20% each year until the break expires after 5 years. This provision would create inequities in taxable property values and would artificially inflate property values making homes less affordable for those with limited incomes.

Since Amendment 4 does result in different property values for different property owners as opposed to treating all equal, it shouldn’t be a constitutional issue. That being said, we have passed several amendments in FL that have created inequity in property values. Some provisions of Amendment 4 would reduce those inequities while other provisions would create more inequity. For this reason, I oppose Amendment 4 and ask you to vote no on 4.

The best option would be to eliminate property taxes altogether. The next best solution would be to eliminate all limits on property value increases while leaving homestead exemption for homesteaded properties and to have property owners hold their legislators, county commissioners, city council members, and all other taxing authorities feet to the fire to keep property tax rates low. With Save Our Homes, there is little involvement from taxpayers as rising property values don’t affect existing home owners enough to warrant the effort to hold elected officials accountable.

I oppose Amendment 4 and ask you to vote no on 4.

Amendment 5 – STATE COURTS

Currently, the FL Bar Association polices judges. Amendment 5 would allow the FL legislature to police judges and would give the FL Senate the authority to confirm Supreme Court nominees. While Amendment 5 isn’t perfect, it should help reign in activist judges. I support Amendment 5 and ask you to vote yes on 5.

Amendment 6 – PROHIBITION ON PUBLIC FUNDING OF ABORTIONS; CONSTRUCTION OF ABORTION RIGHTS

With a title like this, one might think that Amendment 6 prohibits tax funding of abortion; however, Amendment 6 doesn’t prohibit a single dime in abortion funding that is not already prohibited by state statute. Moreover, Amendment 6 would fund abortion in the cases of rape, incest, life and health of the mother, and where federal law requires tax funding of abortion (i.e. where a Medicaid patient elects to have an abortion). Amendment 6 also infers that the US and FL constitutions include a “right to abortion.” While the FL Supreme Court has issued opinions claiming this right is in our constitution, adding these words to our constitution would agree with them and actually add this “right” to our constitution while limiting it to the extent that it is in the US Constitution. While this limitation would allow certain abortion regulation laws, it could enshrine the “right to abortion” in our constitution.

If this amendment passes, it will do so because Floridians believe it actually prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion as proponents claim. If it fails, I encourage the legislature to resubmit the amendment without the exceptions and without inferring that our constitutions includes a “right” to abortion. Amending our constitution to protect innocent human life is of paramount importance and should be done in a way that does not undermine the end result we seek, the legal protection of every humans from conception to natural death. I oppose Amendment 6 and ask you to vote NO on 6.

For a more detailed argument on Amendment 6, view Personhood FL ProLife PAC’s position in opposition to Amendment 6.

I oppose Amendment 6 and ask you to vote NO on 6.

Amendment 8 – RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

From the title of Amendment 8, one might think this amendment deals with religious freedom; however, we already have religious freedom in the United States. What this amendment really does is provide tax funding for religious organizations that provide social services. The argument is that we’re already paying taxes for social services. Why not give that money to religious organizations to fund their programs.

While tax revenue for religious organizations is enticing, we must remember a few things:

Religious organizations should look to God, not the government, as their provider. Organizations that depend on private donations run much more efficiently and do a better job fundraising than ones that receive government money. Moreover, dependence on God means that He can direct funds to the organizations He wills to exist. Government money may allow poorly run and ineffective organizations that would otherwise go under to continue and flourish.

Tax funding always comes with strings attached. Do we really want for religious organizations to become dependent on government money? Wouldn’t they then be vulnerable if the government asked them to violate their conscience or prohibited them from certain tasks. Believe me, it will happen.

Tax funding of religious organizations wouldn’t be limited to Bible believing organizations. Can you envision a radical Muslim synagogue receiving tax money for their work? How would that make you feel? Remember, this is your tax dollars at work.

Wouldn’t the best option be to STOP taxing Floridians for social services and allow organizations to receive their funding from private donations. This would allow all organizations to experience the efficiencies and excellence required to operate on donations and would weed out inefficient and ineffective organizations.

I oppose Amendment 8 and recommend you vote NO on 8.

For a more complete analyses of Amendment 8, read KrisAnne Hall’s Trusting Government Over God. The Florida Family Policy Council has issues an article Responding to KrisAnne Hall; however, I believe that they fail to address the main concerns Hall raises.

I oppose Amendment 8 and recommend you vote NO on 8.

Amendment 9 – HOMESTEAD PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR SURVIVING SPOUSE OF MILITARY VETERAN OR FIRST RESPONDER

The military and law enforcement are two of the few legitimate functions of government having support and authority in both the US Constitution and the Bible. I do full support implementing this exemption; however, since this amendment applies to a specific group of people and not the general population, this discount should not be applied through a constitutional amendment but through the legislature. (See Amendment 2). I oppose Amendment 9 but call on the FL Legislature to pass legislation granting this exemption.

Amendment 10 – TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION

Tangible personal property tax is a tax on items a business owns. The business already paid sales tax on the items when purchased, but the government believes it has the authority to require those businesses to pay taxes on those same items every year they own them. This type of tax isn’t authorized in the Bible. While Amendment 10 will not eliminate personal property tax, it will greatly reduce the number of Florida businesses who pay the tax; therefore, I support Amendment 10 and ask you to vote yes on 10.

Amendment 11 – ADDITIONAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION; LOW-INCOME SENIORS WHO MAINTAIN LONG-TERM RESIDENCY ON PROPERTY; EQUAL TO ASSESSED VALUE

As stated early, I oppose property tax since it allows the seizure of the property of those who don’t pay in direct violation of scripture which prohibits taking someone’s property. (Deuteronomy 19:14) We should especially protect the property rights of low income seniors even though doing so would mean that all others pay more in property taxes. I do full support implementing this exemption; however, since this amendment applies to a specific group of people and not the general population, this discount should not be applied through a constitutional amendment but through the legislature. (See Amendment 2). I oppose Amendment 11 but call on the FL Legislature to pass legislation granting this exemption. Vote no on 11.

Amendment 12 – APPOINTMENT OF STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT TO BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM

The first universities in the United States were founded by Christians for the purpose of educating pastors in the gospel of Jesus Christ. How did we get to the place where the government now runs most of our universities, provides tax dollars to universities, provides financing for students, and regulates universities? This amendment would create a new government bureaucracy. I oppose Amendment 12 and ask you to vote no on 12.

Personhood FL and Personhood FL ProLife PAC have taken a position on two proposed Florida constitutional amendments: Amendment 1 and Amendment 6. Personhood FL and Personhood FL ProLife PAC support Amendment 1 and oppose Amendment 6 for the reasons stated below.

Amendment 1

The proposed Amendment 1 to the FL constitution is designed to prohibit the government from requiring individuals from purchasing healthcare insurance and allowing individuals to directly pay for healthcare. This amendment may give Florida’s governor and legislature both the courage and legal foundation to exert Florida’s 10th amendment rights to protect Floridians from provisions of the Affordable Healthcare Act of 2010 and would prohibit the passage of a similar act on a statewide level.

Since the Affordable Healthcare Act does include coverage for abortions and since socialized healthcare has always led to rationing of care for seniors and the disabled, Personhood FL and Personhood ProLife PAC support Amendment 1 and encourage you to vote yes on 1.

Amendment 6

Amendment 6 is billed by several prolife organizations as an amendment that will prohibit tax funding of abortion. In reality, it would allow tax funding of abortion in the cases of rape, incest, the life or health of the mother, and where federal law requires tax funding of abortion and will NOT prohibit a single dime from funding abortions that aren’t already prohibited by state statute. (Read the complete amendment text here.) It is with profound regret that we oppose Amendment 6 and must ask you to vote NO on 6.

Personhood FL and Personhood FL ProLife PAC realize that rape is a violent act that no woman should ever have to go through. We believe that those who commit rape and incest should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but we oppose executing a child for the crimes of her father. We do not believe that abortion is ever a compassionate solution to any “problem.” We have interviewed women who have had an abortion after rape and have not found one who was glad she had the abortion. Many said that the abortion was more traumatic than the rape! (Read their stories here.) Furthermore, we oppose forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions based on the manner in which a child was conceived. When we allow for exceptions, we weaken the prolife argument and thus prolong the killing of innocent children in the womb.

Everyone wants to see both the mother and the child survive though pregnancy and childbirth. In all cases, doctors should fight to save both lives; however, we realize that there are rare cases where saving both isn’t possible. In such cases, doctors should save the life of the mother after they have exhausted all efforts to save both lives. Such provisions are used in FL’s partial birth abortion ban (782.36(4), F.S.) but were not included in Amendment 6. Moreover the life and health of the mother clause used in this amendment is overly broad which may lead to tax funding of abortions that are not medically necessary to save the life of the mother and where no attempt has been made to save the life of the preborn child.

Amendment 6 also includes the following statement: “This constitution may not be interpreted to create broader rights to an abortion than those contained in the United States Constitution.” This section implies that the US and FL constitutions do include a “right” to abortion. We believe that this could enshrine the “right” to abortion into our constitution though limiting it to the extent that it is present in the US Constitution.

While it is clear that the US Supreme Court through a series of cases created a right to privacy that is not found in the US Constitution, it is also true that this right to privacy doesn’t allow a mother or father to kill another person. For instance, mothers have been charged with murder for drowning their toddlers in the bathtub in the privacy of their own home. Why? Because their born children are persons whose lives are protected by the US Constitution. The US Supreme Court in the Roe v Wade case decided that preborn babies weren’t persons and could therefore be killed by abortion. This is why a personhood amendment is needed to define all humans, including the preborn, as persons. The Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment will do just that. Please download and sign a copy of the petition today and help us gather the nearly 700,000 petition signatures required to obtain ballot access in 2014.

While Personhood FL and Personhood FL ProLife PAC enjoy working with the prolife organizations and legislators that support this amendment, we do oppose Amendment 6 and ask you to vote no on it. If this were legislation, it would be bad enough to allow for tax funding of abortion in certain cases and to infer that the US and Florida constitutions include a “right” to abortion, but to add this to our constitution would strengthen these deficiencies, and require another amendment to remove the provisions that allow for tax funding of abortion in certain cases and that infer that the US and FL constitutions includes a “right” to abortion. Amending the constitution requires first making it onto the ballot (either by the legislature placing it on the ballot or by collecting nearly 700,000 petition signatures), obtaining approval by the FL Supreme Court, and then obtaining 60% of the vote in a general election. If passed, we will likely never remove the exceptions or the inferred “right” to abortion clauses.

Additionally, Amendment 6 will NOT prohibit any tax funding of abortion that is not already prohibited in current FL law. As documented by Americans United for Life’s Florida Defending Life Report Card, “Florida follows the federal standard for Medicaid funding for abortions, only permitting the use of federal or state matching Medicaid funds for abortions necessary to preserve the life of the woman or when the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.” As such, Amendment 6 will NOT prohibit a single dime from funding abortions that aren’t already prohibited by state statute.

If this amendment passes, it will do so because Floridians believe it actually prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion as proponents claim. If it fails, we encourage the legislature to resubmit the amendment without the exceptions and without inferring that our constitutions includes a “right” to abortion. Amending our constitution to protect innocent human life is of paramount importance and should be done in a way that does not undermine the end result we seek, the legal protection of every humans from conception to natural death. We oppose Amendment 6 and ask you to vote NO on 6.

Personhood FL ProLife PAC today announces it’s general election endorsement of over 40 candidates for federal, state, and local offices across Florida and its position on two of the proposed Florida constitutional amendments. Endorsed candidates include current Congressman Tom Rooney; current Florida Representative and candidate for Florida Senate, Kelli Stargel, and current Marion County Commissioner Stanley McClain. Personhood FL ProLife PAC endorsed Republicans, Democrats, and NPA and third party candidates for every office from US Senator to Soil and Water Conservation and every position in-between.

All endorsed candidates signed a Personhood Affirmation indicating their agreement to Personhood FL ProLife PAC’s comprehensive prolife principles covering not only abortion but also abortion funding, RU-486, fetal stem cell research, human cloning, fetal tissue research, and assisted suicide and euthanasia. Candidates also affirmed that all humans should have personhood status under the Florida and US Constitutions from the beginning of the biological development of that human being to natural death. Moreover, candidates agreed to defend all innocent human life including preborn babies, the elderly, and the disabled.
Personhood FL Director* Bryan Longworth praised the endorsements and encouraged prolife voters to support prolife candidates, “Personhood FL ProLife PAC has today endorsed candidates who have committed to protect all innocent human life. It’s no longer sufficient to be against abortion in certain circumstances. Being prolife in the 21st Century demands that we defend human life from beginning to end. These candidates have committed to protect human life from experimentation in laboratories and our seniors and the disabled when their lives are seen as expendable. For the first time in Florida’s history, voters will have the opportunity to support candidates who are 100% prolife, without exception. I encourage prolife Floridians to support prolife candidates with their votes, time, and money.”

In the primary election, Personhood FL ProLife PAC endorsed over 80 candidates for federal, state, and local offices across Florida including Congressman Tom Rooney and current Florida Representative and candidate for Florida Senate, Kelli Stargel. Personhood FL ProLife PAC endorsed Republicans, Democrats, and NPA and third party candidates for every office from US Senator to Soil and Water Conservation and every position in-between.

Several endorsed candidates won their primary election giving prolife voters an opportunity to vote for prolife candidates in the general election, and Personhood FL ProLife PAC has invited general election candidates to seek endorsement for the general election.

In the primary election cycle, several candidates contacted our office who wanted to sign the Personhood Affirmation but didn’t have enough time to do so. ProLife candidates who made it through the primary now have an opportunity to seek endorsement in the general election. We also also received calls and e-mails from prolifers who asked why a particular candidate wasn’t included in our list of endorsed candidates. (View Personhood FL ProLife PAC Primary Election Endorsed Candidates List here.) The reason they weren’t endorsed is because they didn’t submit their Personhood Affirmation and Petition on time. If you know a prolife candidate who wasn’t included in the Personhood FL ProLife PAC list of endorsed candidates, please ask them to review our PAC Guidelines for Candidate Endorsement and submit their Personhood Affirmation and Petition.

To qualify for endorsement, prolife candidates must sign a Personhood Affirmation and the Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment Petition indicating their agreement to Personhood FL ProLife PAC’s comprehensive prolife principles covering not only abortion but also abortion funding, RU-486, fetal stem cell research, human cloning, fetal tissue research, and assisted suicide and euthanasia. Candidates also affirmed that all humans should have personhood status under the Florida and US Constitutions from the beginning of the biological development of that human being to natural death. Moreover, candidates agreed to defend all innocent human life including preborn babies irrespective of their manner of conception, the elderly, and the disabled.
Wouldn’t you love to vote twice tomorrow? Well, you can! Obviously, you can’t physically vote twice without breaking the law, and I’m not encouraging you to do so. You can multiply your vote tomorrow however. How? Read below.

Chances are: someone you know who is a registered FL voter who isn’t going to vote tomorrow. If you can convince them to vote, you can multiply your vote. You also likely know someone who doesn’t know who the candidates are and what they stand for. If you can educate them on where the candidates stand on the issues, you can multiply your vote.

I’ve worked diligently to provide voter guides to help voters determine where the candidates stand of the issues, and I’ve even created a convenient post card with a list of endorsed and recommended candidates.

Where do the candidates in your area stand on the sanctity of Human Life. In the past, we’ve had to guess. We’ve had to wonder. In fact in the past, most of the voter guides merely asked the question: Do you oppose abortion except in the cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother? If a candidate answered yes, that candidate was deemed to be prolife.

Well, those days are gone for the state of Florida because in the state of Florida, we’ve asked the candidates to take a stand. We didn’t ask them where they stand. We asked them to agree with our position on a comprehensive view of life not just on abortion but also on several other issues including: embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, RU-486, tax funding of abortion, fetal tissue research, assisted suicide, and euthanasia. We also asked for candidates to defend all innocent human life including those children who have been conceived in rape or incest. (Read the document candidates affirmed here.)

We contacted all state and federal candidates in Florida as well as candidates for local offices in 36 of the 67 counties, over 3,500 candidates in all. For the first time doing this, our response has been overwhelming. Candidates from all levels of office from Soil and Water District all the way up to US Senate have taken a stand to defend the sanctity of innocent human life.

(Find out which candidates signed the ProLife Affirmation here.)

We’re going to look at what the Bible has to say about these issues and see what God would have us believe to develop this Biblical worldview.

Sermon Notes:

Opening Passage –

Psalms 71:1-24 - “In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame. Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline Your ear to me, and save me. Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You. I have become as a wonder to many, But You are my strong refuge. Let my mouth be filled with Your praise And with Your glory all the day. Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails. For my enemies speak against me; And those who lie in wait for my life take counsel together, Saying, “God has forsaken him; Pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him.” O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! Let them be confounded and consumed Who are adversaries of my life; Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor Who seek my hurt. But I will hope continually, And will praise You yet more and more. My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all the day, For I do not know their limits. I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only. O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works. Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come. Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high, You who have done great things; O God, who is like You? You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, Shall revive me again, And bring me up again from the depths of the earth. You shall increase my greatness, And comfort me on every side. Also with the lute I will praise you-And Your faithfulness, O my God! To You I will sing with the harp, O Holy One of Israel. My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, And my soul, which You have redeemed. My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long; For they are confounded, For they are brought to shame Who seek my hurt.” (NKJV)

The Sanctity of Human Life – Imago Dei

Genesis 1:27 – “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (NKJV)

Genesis 9:6 – “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.” NKJV

Psalms 139:13-15 – “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.” (NKJV)

Psalms 51:5 – “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.” (NKJV)

Luke 1:15 – “For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.” (NKJV)

Luke 1:41 – “And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” (NKJV)

Psalms 71:9 & 18 – “Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails. . . Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.” (NKJV)

God’s Blessings are Contingent on Our Obedience

Isaiah 1:15-17 – “When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not hear.
Covenant Tabernacle World Outreach Center in Port Saint Lucie Florida is a nondenominational, charismatic reformed church that believes the Pentecostal gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to believers today. We believe God has called us to worship, proclaim His word, and Disciple the nations in obedience to His commandments.

Vibrant Worship

At Covenant Tabernacle, we believe in worshiping God “with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 – NKJV) As a part of our worship, we blow the Shofar as blown in ancient Jewish worship.

Powerful, Bible based Preaching

We believe that the word of God is true (2 Samuel 7:28) and that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV) We encourage all believers to develop a Biblical Worldview that shapes our view on not only our personal life but also our family, friends, loved ones, church, and civil government.

Discipleship

We believe in following Christ’s Great Commission to “‘go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV) As such, we believe in discipling individuals, families, communities, cities, states, and nations in obedience to God’s word.

As we gather together to worship the Lord, our hearts are saddened by the shooting that happened in Colorado, and I think we must ask ourselves what does The Dark Knight Rises shooting tell us about America? What does this tell us about our country? Where have we gone wrong that a young person can walk into a theater, a bright person, someone that is in a PhD program, can walk into a theater with a bulletproof vest, helmet, gas mask, four weapons, and thousands of rounds of ammunition and kill 12 people and wound dozens of others?

You know, it was just a little bit over 13 years ago that we heard about the Columbine shooting where young people went to Columbine High School and opened fire on children who were there to learn. I went on the Internet today to look at the chronology of school shootings. I remember hearing about the 60s how the chief problems in schools were chewing gum and being late to class. Today it’s not uncommon at all to have they have violence that happens. When I was in school, you would have fights every now and then, but today you do have violent crimes happening, even rape, even murder. When I look for a chronology of the school shootings, I expected to find just a few. What I found was 3 & 1/2 pages of shootings most of which have happened since 1999 in America.

Where have we gone wrong? Where have we lost our course that in this country our children are killing each other? Parents are killing their kids. Kids are killing their parents? Where have we gone wrong in this nation? Where have we failed? Certainly God has some answers for us. We’re going to look to see what the word of God has to say concerting this subject.

Opening Passage — Psalm 36.

Removing Creation from Public Schools

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 NKJV)

Removing Prayer, The Bible, and The Ten Commandments from Public Schools

Deuteronomy 4:9-10 – “Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren, especially concerning the day you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me, ‘Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.’” (NKJV)

Removing the Law Of God from Our Churches, Homes, and Society

Removing the Sanctity of Human Life – Imago Dei

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27 NKJV)

Removing the Fear of God

“There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:18 NKJV)

Our Response

Ezekiel 22:30-31 – “‘So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,’ says the Lord GOD.” (NKJV)

2 Chronicles 7:13 ‑14 — “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (NKJV)

Personhood FL ProLife PAC today announces it’s endorsement of over 80 candidates for federal, state, and local offices across Florida. Endorsed candidates include 7 term Congressman and candidate for US Senate, Dr Dave Weldon; current Congressman Tom Rooney; current Florida Representative and candidate for Florida Senate, Kelli Stargel, and former Florida Representative and current FL House candidate Randy Johnson. Personhood FL ProLife PAC endorsed Republicans, Democrats, and NPA and third party candidates for every office from US Senator to Soil and Water Conservation and every position in-between.

Congressman Tom Rooney

All endorsed candidates signed a Personhood Affirmation indicating their agreement to Personhood FL ProLife PAC’s comprehensive prolife principles covering not only abortion but also abortion funding, RU-486, fetal stem cell research, human cloning, fetal tissue research, and assisted suicide and euthanasia. Candidates also affirmed that all humans should have personhood status under the Florida and US Constitutions from the beginning of the biological development of that human being to natural death. Moreover, candidates agreed to defend all innocent human life including preborn babies irrespective of their manner of conception, the elderly, and the disabled. (Read Personhood FL ProLife PAC’s ProLife Principles and Personhood Affirmation here.)

I encourage prolife Florida voters to support these candidates with their votes, time, and money.”

Personhood FL ProLife PAC recently contacted all candidates for state and federal office in Florida as well as all candidates for local offices in 36 of Florida’s largest counties. Rather than asking them where they stand on the sanctity of human life, we asked them to agree to our comprehensive prolife principles covering not only abortion but also abortion funding, RU-486, fetal stem cell research, human cloning, fetal tissue research, assisted suicide and euthanasia. (Read Personhood FL ProLife PAC’s ProLife Principles and Personhood Affirmation here.) We’ll release our list of endorsed candidates Tuesday, July 31 and expect to endorse over 100 candidates including current congressman and former congressmen running for US Senate. Until then, I thought you’d like to hear how our endorsement process has been received.

Vote ProLife

The response has been amazing. Candidates have flooded Personhood FL ProLife PAC’s office with Personhood Affirmations and Petitions. We’ve received Personhood Affirmations from politicians running for Soil and Water Conservation District to US Senate and for every office in between. One FL House member is so committed to life that she drove two hours each way to hand deliver her Personhood Affirmation and Petition on time.

During this endorsement process we have challenged candidates to take a 100% prolife position, and the feedback has been encouraging. The following is a sample of the feedback we’ve received:

“I received an e-mail today. I will be returning page 19 for the Candidate Affirmation. I hate to admit how ignorant I was, but I want to thank you so much for all of the information contained in the e-mail. I just think it’s wonderful to have lots of education to open the eyes of people like myself that just did not have all of the facts. Thank you so much, and God bless you for your fine work.” Candidate for School Board.

“I just wanted to add a personal note with the signed material. I was raised in the Christian Church and also attended and followed many of the Catholic Church traditions, but learned much more from your information. Many people do not consider the suicide issue along with all the other issues, and I applaud you for this. Thank you again for all you are doing.” Candidate for County Commission.

“I like the information you are providing. Many Republicans want to find a way for their pro-life message to be more “palatable” and end up not standing up for their principles. I really feel if we will have courage on this issue, it will resonate with the hearts of people and we can save more and more lives as time goes on. I am unashamed to support our very first right-Life. Thanks again for what you do.” Candidate for FL House.

Watch your e-mail for our endorsement list tomorrow.
