Pastor Jeff Steffel ProLife Personhood Sermon

ProLife Sermon

January 22, 2014 marks the 41st anniversary of the tragic passage of Roe v. Wade in 1973, which legalized abortion in the United States. Thousands of churches will be taking part in the National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, January 19 and 26 which memorializes the lives lost through abortion and celebrates the value and dignity bestowed upon every human person by the Creator.

It’s essential that our churches speak up about the tragedy of abortion. Among self-identified Evangelical Christians, 32% of unintended pregnancies end in abortion. 28% of women who obtain abortions describe themselves as Catholic. That means men and women in your church have been deeply scarred by abortion and need to hear the healing message of repentance, grace, and forgiveness. This also means that men, women, boys, and girls in your church will face an unplanned pregnancy in the future and may consider abortion.

That’s why I need you to do something very important today: call or email your pastor or priest and encourage him to preach a pro-life sermon this week, on January 19 or 26. I guarantee you that your pastor hears from those who don’t want to hear the truth. He needs encouragement from those who know that the truth will set you free! Your words may give him the courage to preach a pro-life sermon for the first time if he’s never done so before, or to preach pro-life sermons more often.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is also a great time to collect petitions for The Right to Life of All Persons Recognized and Protected Amendment Petition. This amendment was just approved December 26, 2013. Registered Florida voters who signed the previous petitions need to sign this new petition. Personhood FL has everything you need to petition in your church and everything your pastor needs to preach a prolife sermon at http://www.personhoodfl.com/pastors/.

Remember, Personhood isn’t just a political issue. It’s a profound issue of spiritual significance that is at the very heart of what it means to be created in the Image of God. God condemns the shedding of innocent blood and he calls upon His people to do the same. Because so many churches remain hushed about abortion, theologian Francis Schaeffer once said, “Every abortion clinic should have a sign over it saying: ‘This facility open by permission of the local church.'”

Will your church remain silent?

For Life,

Pastor Bryan Longworth
