Personhood FL has launched a new prolife constitutional petition to end abortion and protect all innocent human life including the elderly and the disabled. The new petition is based on language that has won the approval of the Catholic Conference of Bishops and is simple and legally effective.

The Right to Life of All Persons Recognized and Protected Amendment is based on language used in ND that garnered the support of prolife groups and Christian denominations including the North Dakota Catholic Conference of Bishops. The previous personhood amendments presented by Personhood FL have received little support from existing pro-life, pro-family groups in Florida and were opposed by the FL Catholic Conference of Bishops. In using this language, Personhood FL hopes to garner the support of existing groups and the FL Conference of Catholic Bishops. As a result of the widespread support for the ND personhood amendment, the North Dakota legislature passed the amendment March 22, 2013, and voters in ND will vote on the amendment in the November 2014 elections.
In studying the outcomes of previous personhood efforts, we have learned that our language needs to be easy for voters to understand. The new petition is just that: simple and to the point. Using terms the average voter can understand makes the amendment more marketable both in the petitioning and get out the vote (GOTV) phases of the amendment process. The Right to Life of All Persons Recognized and Protected Amendment Petition simply states: “The God-given right to life of every human being at any stage of development shall be recognized and protected. This provision shall be deemed to supersede any other inconsistent provisions.”
To be truly effective though, a personhood petition must also be legally effective. That’s why the language of The Right to Life of All Persons Recognized and Protected Amendment was adapted to the Florida Constitution and statutes by Personhood USA and Liberty Counsel attorneys. This is vital since the Florida Supreme Court created a “right to abortion” in the case re T.W., A Minor. The Right to Life of All Persons Recognized and Protected Amendment takes this “right to abortion” head on by adding a clause that the amendment supersedes any inconsistent provision.
Pastor Bryan Longworth, President of Personhood FL believes The Right to Life of All Persons Recognized and Protected Amendment must be passed to protect our posterity, our elder, and the disabled, “40 years of legal child killing is 40 years too long! It is imperative that we provide constitutional protection to all human life including the elderly and disabled, both of which have been starved and dehydrated to death in our state. It is time to restore the sanctity of human life and re-affirm our God given right to life.”
