Thursday: Taxing Agency Voting to Defund Planned Parenthood!

The St. Lucie County Children’s Services Council (CSC), an independent taxing authority in Florida, has funded Planned Parenthood since 2002 and has awarded grants totaling nearly $4,000,000 to the organization, but that may all change Thursday when the CSC considers defunding Planned Parenthood. The CSC could join the likes of Indiana, Kansas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin who all recently cut Planned Parenthood funding. The decision will be make by the CSC during their monthly meeting held Sept. 8 at 8:30 am, at the CSC office, 546 NW University Blvd, Suite 201, Port St. Lucie, FL 34986 across from the entrance to Tradition Field. (View a map here.)

St. Lucie Taxpayers Against Planned Parenthood Funding has led the effort to defund Planned Parenthood by organizing pickets and speaking at monthly meetings. The group postponed a picket of the TD Bank where board member Pat Alley works until after Thursday’s vote and hopes that that picket won’t be necessary. The group has promised to continue efforts to defund Planned Parenthood including picketing board members homes and places of work and campaigning against the Children’s Services Counsel the 2014 referendum that will allow St Lucie County voters to abolish the CSC. St. Lucie Taxpayers Against Planned Parenthood Funding will hold a press conference outside of the Children’s Services Counsel immediately following Tuesday’s vote.

Sermon, Why We Must End Abortion NOW, Training Our Children to Obey God Where We Have Failed to Do So Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle, Personhood

No parent wants to admit to their children that they have made mistakes in the past, yet that is exactly what God asks parents in general and fathers in particular in Psalm 78. In the 60s, we saw the rise of the sexual revolution in America, and the promiscuity has gotten progressively worse since that time. It is time that we turn back to God and look at His principles and His precepts. Here in Psalm 78:1-8, we read,

Is Your County One of the Most ProLife Counties in Florida?

Personhood FL Volunteers Sort Petitions

Volunteers recently helped Personhood FL sort petitions received. The petitions came from counties across the State of Florida and covered every region of the state! Of the petitions sorted, … County was the most prolife county, having submitted the most petitions followed by … and … Counties. Volunteers continue working to sort additional petitions received, and we expect to add other counties to the list of Most ProLife Counties.

Sermon, Why We Must End Abortion NOW – And Who Is My Neighbor? Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

Why We Must End Abortion NOW, And Who is My Neighbor? The Scribes and Pharacies were always trying to trick Jesus into saying something that would get Him in trouble. They laid such a trap for Jesus when a lawyer asked Him which is the most important commandment. Jesus answered the question with a question. The lawyer answered correctly that we are to love God and our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus affirmed the answer directing the man, “do this and you will live,” but the lawyer wanting to justify himself said and who is my neighbor? Jesus then shared one of the most powerful parables in the Bible, the parable of the good Samaritan. A Jewish man is robbed, beaten, and left for dead. A priest came by and walked right by, refusing to be neighbor to the injured man. A Levite did the same. Then came a Samaritan. you may recall that the Jews despised Samaritans and viewed them as half breeds which they were because they were from Jewish decent whose parents had intermarried with pagan nations. The Samaritan bandaged the man’s wounds, carried him on his donkey to an inn, cared for him, and paid the inn keeper additional money to care for the man until he could care for himself. The Samaritan, was neighbor to the man in the ditch.

The lawyer asked, “and who is my neighbor”? In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus flips the question and asks who will you be neighbor to? The Priest wasn’t neighbor to the man lying in the ditch. The Levite wasn’t neighbor to the man lying in the ditch. But the despised Samaritan was neighbor him.

And how about you? Preborn baby girls and boys are lying in the ditch scheduled for slaughter by safe, legal abortion. Will you pass by on the other side of the street, or will you be neighbor to the preborn?

Fathers’ Day Sermon, Every Child Needs a Hero, Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle Church

Every child needs a hero. When I grew up, my hero was my dad. Before I would ever see Johnny Bench throw out a base runner, or watch Pete Rose get a hit, or cheer as Terry Bradshaw threw another touchdown pass, or watch with amazement as Franco Harris grabbed the immaculate reception. or took part in a Mylon Lefevre and Broken Heart or Stryper concert, my dad was my hero. I wanted to be like him. When he went to school, I got my books out so that I would look like him. I couldn’t wait each day until he picked me up from daycare! And the day I saw him working on the water fountain at my school, nothing could keep me from getting to him, not my teacher, not the gate fence, nothing. My dad taught me to have a

Sermon, Memorial Day, Is the Lord For Us or For Our Adversaries? Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

When the Lord appeared to Joshua near Jericho, Joshua asked, ‘Are You for us or for our adversaries?’ So He said, ‘No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.’ This is a curious answer. One would think that the Lord would take sides in this battle, especially since Israel was His chosen people. Yes the answer was, No, but I am here. Joshua’s question really was misdirected. The question should not have been whether God was on Israels side but rather was Israel on God’s side, for it is only when a nation is on God’s side that God will bless and defend and fight for that nation.

Moreover, when a nation departs from His commandments and violates His precepts

5-8-11 Sermon, Returning to God’s Plan for Motherhood, Covenant Tabernacle, Pastor Bryan Longworth

Today is a special day for mothers. It is the one day when mothers are honored and appreciated. We should honor them every day, yet all too often, mothers don’t receive the respect they deserve. motherhood is in a crisis in America because we have departed from the Biblical Standard for the Family, Fatherhood, and Motherhood. It is time that we return to the clear teaching of Christ found in the word of God, the Bible. These teachings deal with sex before marriage, faithfulness in marriage, whether we view children as a blessing or an inconvenience, the role of women in the work place, and the important but often neglected role of having the older women train the younger women. I challenge you to look to the scripture with me as we seek to understand God’s heart on mothers and motherhood.

5-1-11 National Day of Prayer, Humiliation, and Fasting Before God, Covenant Tabernacle, Pastor Bryan Longworth

Our nation has been rocked with natural disasters with raging storms sweeping through Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee, killing over 300 to date. Yet this is nothing new. Since that dreadful Roe v Wade decision and the ensuing millions upon millions of unborn babies that have been killed by “safe, legal” abortion on demand, we have seen ever increasing damage from natural disasters. From flooding in the Midwest, to earthquakes in the West and elsewhere, to wild fires, to hurricanes, to tornadoes, to ice storms, to drought. It is as if creation is groaning with birth pangs, eagerly awaiting the revealing of the sons of God (Romans 8:22). It is as if creation will not willingly put up with our futility and as if God is removing His restraining hand (Romans 8:19-21). It is as if the land were vomiting out its inhabitants as God warns in Leviticus 18 and 20.

1/2/11, Sermon, It’s Time for Your Examination, New Year’s Resolution

This time of year, many Americans focus on what changes we should make to improve ourselves. Often, these changes revolve around weight loss, exercise, and other physical improvements. While it is important to take care of our bodies, it is much more important to make sure we are right with God. Learn what God says about how we should improve our physical and spiritual lives

12/19/10 Sermon, O Holy Night, What Christ has Wrought for Us, Christmas Carol, Jesus, God

Living Nativity Manger Scene

O Holy Night was written in 1847 by Placide Cappeau as a Christmas Poem at the request of his parish priest in Paris France. The poem was later put to music by Adolphe Adam. The year the Christmas Carol was written is significant as we shall see when we look at verse three. Join us as we examine this carol and see how it preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ, God became flesh and dwelt among us.

12/5/10 Sermon, Has the Government Exceeded Its Biblical Authority

We have seen ever increasingly the ever expanding role of government in America. This expansion has greatly accelerated in the last two years as President Barack Obama has aggressively pushed his radical, socialist agenda. But it’s not just the Federal Government that’s at fault. In Florida, someone who wants to paint someone’s fence has to go to four government offices in different locations and pay fees to get an occupational permit. You shouldn’t need the governments permission to work!
How did the founding fathers make it without permits? How did their houses stand up. How did they make it without welfare? How did they survive without Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security? How did they send their kids to college without government loans? How did they make it without government regulation?
Has the federal government exceeded the authority provided it by our nation’s founding fathers in the US Constitution? More importantly, has it exceeded the authority God gave it in His word, the Bible?

On My Birthday, I’m Asking for Three Gifts that Won’t Cost You a Dime

Bryan Longworth Skateboarding

Yes it’s my birthday today. I’m a year older and hopefully wiser than the year before. (I don’t think I’ll take my skateboard down the ramps at the skateboard park like I did last year when I broke my wrist!) The past year has been difficult with the economic struggles presently facing America, yet God has provided. Certainly, I could ask for thing; however, on my birthday, I’m asking for three gifts that won’t cost you a dime. (This doesn’t mean that I don’t need socks from my wife and kids!) These three gifts will also not directly benefit me but will benefit you, those around you, and society as a whole. Can you help make my birthday the best ever by doing three simple things? Read on

Last Sunday to Distribute Christian Coalition Voter Guides!

Today is the last Sunday to Distribute Voter Guides before the election! Most Saint Lucie County churches and some Indian River County churches received packets of the Florida Christian Coalition Voter Guide. Each packet also contains a letter to the pastor explaining the voter guides and the Biblical reasons for informing church members of what the Bible says about issues and where the candidates stand on the issues. (Read a copy of the letter here: http://bryanlongworth.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/20101028-Pastors-Voter-Guide-Letter.pdf.) St Lucie County churches also received one copy of the St. Lucie County Christian Coalition Voter Guide to duplicate for their congregation. Please distribute voter guides in church today.

Conservative Candidate Endorsements and Recommendations for Florida and Saint Lucie County

Several have asked me to provide a list of candidates I’m endorsing and/or supporting in the general election. I am going to provide this list for Federal, State, and St Lucie County Races. My decision to endorse or support a candidate is my own decision and does not indicate the support or endorsement of any organization I am associated with. In some races, there is no clear cut conservative, or not enough information is available at this time to make a recommendation. In such cases, I will either tell you who I’m voting for or provide any insight I have into the candidates and point you to other sources. I will support a candidate if I feel that he/she is the best candidate for the position and holds to conservative values. I reserve endorsements only for those candidates who are clearly fiscal and social conservatives based on their survey responses, their record, and other indicators. I will only endorse candidates who are 100% prolife which means they support the proposed Florida Personhood Amendment which will give constitutional rights to preborn children, oppose funding Planned Parenthood and medical organizations that provide abortion counseling, and oppose condom ed. In the end however, you
